Because our work is focused on children in countries all over the world, the Touch A Life staff members find it crucial to the existence of the organization to connect with international groups and plug into a variety of media markets. One in particular is a staff of Portuguese journalists led by Alexandra Borges.
Borges is a renowned journalist who did a story on trafficking on Lake Volta in September 2007. She and her team filmed the rescue of three boys, and she made sure to document the entire trip as it progressed. Borges and her crew helped scout for trafficked children, negotiate with the masters, conduct the rescues, and provide funding for medical exams. The footage was converted into a documentary that was broadcast throughout Portugal. The film raised awareness of the trafficking occurring Volta and effectively encouraged Portuguese viewers to get involved in stopping human slavery.
Borges and her team returned to Ghana in August 2009 and participated in rescue missions alongside Pam and Rachel, as well as the Ghanaian staff. Again, the trip was carefully documented and plans are being made to produce another film. The Touch A Life staff is so thankful for the support received by Borges and by the Portuguese citizens who have been effected by her work.
