TAL in Vietnam
TAL Shelters
Since 2000, Touch A Life has been working with street children in Vietnam.
We have rescued children from living in very dangerous environments, many of whom were likely at risk of being trafficked.
Our program in Vietnam continues to run like a well-oiled machine, thanks to our amazing staff there. Touch A Life is currently supporting 74 children full time, providing shelter, food and education.
Our homes consist of 15 children living in a family setting with a husband and wife team serving as house parents. Our dream is to raise up these children and instill them with the desire to help other orphans and disadvantaged youths.
The empowerment program offers assistance with school tuition, food and daycare to 150 additional children. Touch A Life committed this past year to focusing our efforts on prevention. We’ve found that prevention programs—like feeding and tuition assistance which help to keep a family in tact — are cost effective and less labor intense.
We’d like to introduce you to the children living in our most recently completed project, the Sullivan House, located in a rural village a few hours outside of Saigon. The children are going to school for the first time and learning to raise pigs on the farm.
Country Profile
Vietnam became a unified country in 1976 after the armed forces of the communist north had seized the south of the country in the previous year.
This was preceded by three decades of bitter independence wars, which the communists fought first against the colonial power France, then against US-backed South Vietnam.
In its latter stages, this conflict held the attention of the world.
