Our summer intern, Jordan Kennamer, recently provided us with an update about the children in Ghana that warmed our hearts, and we wanted to share it with you so that your spirit could be filled, too.
Jordan is spending eight weeks in Ghana to serve the children in TAL’s program. She is able to witness firsthand the role that TAL plays in transforming these children’s lives – and, more importantly, she comprehends how these children truly transform our lives.
During her summer in Ghana, Jordan will have the opportunity to experience the childrens’ everyday lives and utilize her skills to help them in any way necessary. Last week she was able to visit the classrooms where the Ghanaian children spend their days learning and growing. Unlike many children in more fortunate countries where education is taken for granted, these children realize how privileged they are to be receiving a formal education. They devour every opportunity they have to learn, and they put forth a tremendous effort to absorb more knowledge.
In a letter of appreciation to TAL co-founder Pam Cope, Jordan highlighted some memorable parts of her journey thus far, including a very special moment she experienced when speaking with one of the teachers at the childrens’ school. As Jordan and the teacher were discussing how respectful and hard-working the children are, the professor made an observation: “These children are from a home. You know, some come from houses, some come from homes…but these kids come from a home. They treat me well because you treat them well. You should be proud.”
This sentiment is exactly the sort of thing that fuels our organization and keeps many people involved. We cannot take credit for what this teacher witnessed – the children in our programs have incredible hearts and spirits, and we are so proud of the way they are transforming their communities. We are indebted to our in-country staff members who provide so much more than a house for these children to live in – through their love and kindness, they provide them with a home.
Thank you to all of you who have supported our efforts in providing these formerly trafficked children with a place that they can truly call home. We are so excited to have the opportunity to provide them with a brand new homestead – the Touch A Life Care Center. Thanks to your generosity and kindness, these children will never have to know what it’s like to simply live in a house – instead, they will always know what it’s like to live in a loving home.
